Faculty of Science and Engineering, Department of Architecture
Department Objectives
Our aim is to cultivate professionals who not only possess specialized knowledge and technical skills in architecture, but also have the ability to assess and make informed decisions regarding a wide range of living environments—including the green sector. This includes designing and managing energy-efficient buildings, utilizing renewable energy, selecting environmentally friendly materials, and revitalizing existing housing. We also emphasize the development of rich expressive abilities and a strong sense of design.
Key Features
・Two Courses to Deepen Your Expertise
Students choose between two specialized tracks from the first semester of their second year: the Architecture Course and the Spatial Design Course. In the “Architecture Course,” students deepen their knowledge with a focus on design-oriented architectural planning. Through a variety of design projects—including houses, cafés, multi-unit residential complexes, and terminal spaces in regional cities—they develop the ability to create architecture that responds to a changing society and contributes to cultural innovation. In the “Spatial Design Course,” students take a multifaceted approach to space design, learning how to create healthy and comfortable living spaces suited to today’s diverse lifestyles, engaging commercial environments that captivate customers, and beautiful landscape designs. They also acquire methods for renovation and conversion, breathing new life into existing buildings.
・Developing a Professional Mindset
Through Architectural Fieldwork, students step into real urban environments to analyze the current state of architecture and cities. By uncovering underlying patterns and envisioning future possibilities, they enhance their ability to make comprehensive proposals that contribute to more comfortable living for communities.
In addition, through overseas and domestic study programs, students gain firsthand experience of regional cultures and climates, deepening their understanding of living environments. They also explore historical buildings and contemporary architectural concepts and expressions through direct engagement.
These experiences broaden their perspective as future professional architects and provide valuable inspiration for creating their own architectural works.
・Nurturing Architects Who Will Shape the Future
The department offers a wide range of practice-based courses focusing on challenging areas of the architect licensing exam, including architectural drafting and structural calculations.
In particular, design and drafting are taught progressively over eight semesters—from the first semester of the first year through the final semester of the fourth year—allowing students to steadily build their knowledge and skills from basic to advanced levels.
To support students in passing the exam, the program also provides various forms of preparation, such as extracurricular courses specifically designed for the exam and mock tests.
